The Standing Committee on Medical Education brings together students with a passion for health care to deepen their medical knowledge. We organize engaging and educational projects such as Date Je Dokter, Project Life, and the Student Congress, each with its own unique approach and added value. At SCOME, we focus on enriching knowledge and skills to empower students and help them grow. Learning, discovering, and evolving together – that’s what we stand for!


Are you tired of the question “Do you already know what kind of doctor you want to become?” or do you just want some more information about the specialization of your dreams? Then BeMSA Leuven's annual Date Je Dokter event is just for you!

At Date Je Dokter, 3rd bachelor students get the chance to 'speed-date' with different doctors from different disciplines. This gives you a better understanding of the practical aspects, pros and cons, and social life within different specializations. Moreover, you can broaden your horizons by coming into contact with disciplines you may not have considered before.

Every year BeMSA Leuven organizes the Student Congress, which is coordinated by two project managers. A new and varied theme is always chosen, allowing students to come into contact with topics and experts they might not otherwise encounter. In 2025, for example, the theme was “Innovation in Motion,” which included robotic surgery workshops and a company visit to Materialise HQ.

The Student Congress offers participants a unique opportunity to expand medical knowledge and skills, and gain experiences. Here, we focus on making each activity as accessible as possible.

As project manager, your tasks include coming up with new activities, keeping everything on track and getting students excited about your event.

Project Life is a unique initiative within SCOME, created specifically to immerse medical students in the fascinating world of transplantation. The project consists of an external and internal component, each with its own purpose and impact.

The external component focuses on raising awareness and supporting Transplantoux, a non-profit organization associated with UZ Leuven that encourages transplanted patients to keep moving. This year we organized a quiz for the benefit of Transplantoux and an orientation walk, where transplant patients and students meet each other in an informal way.

The internal component offers a group of students a unique opportunity to experience the practice up close. They take part in being on-call in the abdominal transplant department, where they not only take theoretical classes on the transplant procedure, but ultimately get to play an active role themselves.

Project Life is more than a learning experience - it's an inspiring opportunity to enthuse students, deepen their knowledge and introduce them to the wonderful world of transplantation.
